Team Diagnostics
Look at team dynamics, and beyond, to improve performance
The Team Coach
Ruth Dettman, Executive & Team Coach, and Founder of CoachLab
Ruth, a credentialled ICF coach with years of corporate experience, has improved alignment and functioning of mid to senior level teams across industries. She does this by bringing an evidence-based framework, an independent perspective, and a skilled questioning technique to the conversation. This helps leaders and teams accelerate change by uncovering and acting on insights.
The Tool
Relevant and actionable
What it is
Baseline tool
The diagnostic tool is from Performance Climate System. This evidenced-based system has been used over the past 20 years across multiple industries and companies.

The diagnostic is combination of 18 quantitative and 3 qualitative questions; taking approximately 5 minutes to complete. The questionnaire is completed online.
What it gives you
Insight
The combination of the tool and team coach is where you uncover insights that would be harder to see if doing this exercise independently.
The tool includes dimensions that are critical to team performance. Does everyone know what the team is trying to achieve and their role in it? Is there a process and style of accountability that motivates team members? How engaged is the team to work with change, connect with each other, and pull together to get things done?
When its needed
Before any major decisions
In our experience, the natural tendency to resolve team performance challenges is to zoom in. Individual team members are often singled out as contributing to poor performing teams. Managing that dynamic is a time sink for many leaders. It also could lead to costly turnover in the team.

Before any big investment of time or money is made, zooming out to reflect on all aspects that contribute to team performance is a low-risk and high impact exercise. It's especially impactful when done with someone who can provide an independent perspective.
Who's involved
The Leader and the Coach
For this first stage, the leader completes the online diagnostic with guidance from the team coach. They meet to discuss the results. The coach asks questions, using their independent and experienced perspective, to uncover additional insights over and above what is presented in the report.
The full value of the diagnostic is achieved when the whole team completes it. However, this might only be needed if it's agreed, during the debrief, that more data or perspectives are required.

The leader walks away with fresh perspectives that opens up new avenues for quick wins.
